Experimenting with Error Performance of Systems Employing Pulse Shaping Filters on a Software-Defined-Radio Platform
This paper presents experimental results on testing the symbol-error-rate (SER) performance of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) systems employing symmetric pulse-shaping square-root (SR) filters designed by minimizing the roughness function and by minimizing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAR). The device used in the experiments is the 'bladeRF' software-defined-radio platform. PAR is a ...
متن کاملImproving OFDM: Multistream Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling
Mazo’s concept of Faster Than Nyquist signaling is extended to pulse trains that modulate adjacent subcarriers, in a manner similar to orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) transmission. Despite pulses that are faster than the Nyquist limit and subcarriers that significantly overlap, the transmission system achieves the isolated pulse error performance. Systems with at least twice the ...
متن کاملMinimum Symbol-Error-Rate Equalisation
The equalisation topic is well researched and a variety of solutions are available. The MAP sequence detector provides the lowest symbol error rate (SER) attainable, and the MLSE offers a near optimal solution. However, these optimal techniques are not yet practical for high-level modulation schemes, due to their computational complexity. Linear equaliser or linear-combiner DFE are practical sc...
متن کاملNonlinear Transmission Performance of Very High Spectral Efficiency WDM Comparing Nyquist Pulse Shaping and OFDM
The long distance transmission performance of Nyquist-WDM and OFDM, using PDM-QPSK at baud rate channel spacing, is investigated over uncompensated single mode fibre. Results show similar performance for both signal formats and good agreement with closed-form expressions for the nonlinear transmission performance of densely spaced coherent optical systems.
متن کاملHigh Performance Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling
In a wireless broadband context, multi-path dispersive channels can severely affect data communication of Mobile Terminals (MTs) uplink. Single Carrier with Frequency-Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) has been proposed to deal with highly dispersive channels for the uplink of broadband wireless systems. However, current systems rely on older assumptions of the Nyquist theorem and assume that a syste...
